Realtime Trends for Conferences: #smchat and Tonia Ries

Tonia_08_10_web

Tonia Ries is unlike any other conference organizer I have ever met.  Tonia is on the leading edge of realtime trends because she is an astute observer, reflective listener and engaging pioneer.  In other words, she is keen to new ideas and making them happen! Tonia connects people to 21st century social trends as CEO of Modern Media, known for TWTRCON and other conferences. TWTRCON has now evolved into the The Realtime Report which will take place in New York City on June 6th.  Tonia will be my expert guest at the Wednesday, March 30th social media chat, #smchat (a Twitter Chat), at 1 pm EST as we discuss "Realtime" Trends for Conferences.

PART ONE

I first met Tonia Ries at TWTRCON in San Francisco in May of 2009.  The bright smile on her avatar represents Tonia in real life. I know she will be blushing as she reads this post because, even though she is a conference promoter, she does not promote herself.

It is also at the very first TWTRCON that I met and was able to have IRL "conversations" with Jeremiah Owyang (Altimeter Group) Guy Kawasaki ("Enchantment", AllTop)  Loic LeMeur (Seesmic),  Brian Solis ("Engage", Altimeter Group), Ben Parr (Mashable) Laura Fitton (oneforty.com) , MC Hammer (Can't Touch This!) , Yu-kai Chou (RewardMe), Andreas Wilkens (MediaFunnel) among many others.

Amazing?

I am not saying this to name-drop.  On the contrary, it is this accessibility that Tonia's intimate conferences provide. Tonia's conferences bring together the ideas, people, companies and tools that are changing the way we communicate in the new global social world.

As social has evolved dramatically in only a few short years (Facebook is only six and Twitter just had its fifth birthday), conferences and our expectations for communicating in "realtime" are also changing.
  • What is "realtime"?
  • What are our expectations to communicate through the realtime web?
  • How is "realtime" changing conferences?
  • How does Tonia feel about "live" streaming and/or sharing videos from conferences?

These are just some of the questions we will discuss  at #smchat, Wednesday, March 30th at 1 pm EST, as we explore what it means to be "realtime" for conference
  • organizers
  • speakers
  • sponsors, and
  • attendees.

Please join us and @tonia_ries of @realtimereport for #smchat Wednesday March 30th at 1 pm EST--everyone is invited!
